About SaaS is dead

Most apps you pay for every month now have an open-source twin you can run yourself or use for free. This site tracks 814 of them and keeps the numbers live.

Where the list comes from

Which project replaces which product starts from the OpenAlternative awesome list (public domain, CC0) and its "alternative to" pairs from openalternative.co, plus other community lists and our own curation. SaaS is dead is not affiliated with OpenAlternative, or with any company named here. We only reuse the facts (project, repository, what it replaces) and write or link everything else ourselves.

On top of that, every day we search GitHub for young projects that describe themselves as an alternative to a paid product ("the open-source CapCut alternative") and add the ones with real traction. That's how a project launched last month can be on a product page before any list has picked it up.

What the numbers mean

  • Stars, license, language and last commit are read from GitHub on every sync.
  • Launched is the date the GitHub repository was created.
  • Growth is stars gained since our first snapshot at least three weeks back. For young projects without one yet, we show the average stars a day since launch.
  • Activity: green means a commit in the last 3 months, amber in the last year, grey anything older.
  • Prices are the vendor's list price for its entry paid plan, checked on the date shown. They change; the vendor's page wins.

How fresh is it

The site checks for changes every 6 hours and does a full refresh at least once a day. Missing a project, or found one that doesn't belong? Open an issue or pull request on the source lists; changes there show up here on the next sync.

Product names and logos are trademarks of their owners and appear here only to identify the product.
