Open-source alternatives to Airtable

8 projects replace Airtable, the spreadsheet database. 7 shipped code in the last 30 days.

Airtable Team$24/seat/molist price

Airtable charges per editor, and each plan caps records per base, so a growing table pushes you up a tier. Automation runs and API calls have monthly limits too. Data in a hosted spreadsheet-database is awkward to query with normal tools, which frustrates teams who later want SQL or their own reports.

NocoDB and Baserow are the direct replacements: grid, form, kanban and gallery views on a real database, with no record caps when you host them. NocoDB can also sit on top of an existing Postgres or MySQL database. Teable is built on Postgres and aims at very large tables. Grist is closer to a spreadsheet, with Python formulas and detailed access rules.

What you give up by leaving Airtable

The honest part. Free and open usually costs something else.

  • Fewer native integrations Airtable connects to many SaaS tools directly; alternatives lean on webhooks, APIs or n8n.
  • Interfaces and AI Airtable's interface designer and AI fields are ahead of most open-source versions.
  • Automations take effort Airtable's built-in automations are easier to set up than the scripts or webhooks some alternatives need.
  • Upkeep matters Self-hosting a database app means backups and upgrades, and lost data here hurts more than a lost note.
