8 projects replace Discord, the community chat. 8 shipped code in the last 30 days.
Discord is free to join, so people leave it for other reasons. Every server lives under one company's rules, and messages are not end-to-end encrypted. In 2025 Discord added age checks in the UK and Australia, and a breach at a support vendor exposed ID photos users had sent in appeals.
Stoat, the project formerly called Revolt, copies Discord's servers, channels and roles most closely. Fluxer is a newer project chasing the same layout. Matrix clients like Element and Cinny give you rooms that federate across servers. For voice alone, Mumble has served gaming groups with low-latency chat for years.
