Self-hosted newsletter and mailing list manager
Open-source alternatives to Mailchimp
13 projects replace Mailchimp, the email marketing. 12 shipped code in the last 30 days.
Mailchimp charges by contact count, and unsubscribed contacts kept in an audience still count, so lists get pricier as they grow. Since Intuit bought it in 2021, Mailchimp has leaned toward bundled marketing features while the free plan shrank. Small newsletters often pay for automation they never touch.
Listmonk is a single binary with Postgres that sends through any SMTP provider or Amazon SES, and it copes with very large lists. Mautic is a full marketing automation suite with lead scoring, segments and campaigns, closer to HubSpot than to a newsletter tool. Keila and Sendportal are simpler. useSend and Plunk charge by email sent in their hosted versions.

What you give up by leaving Mailchimp
The honest part. Free and open usually costs something else.
- Deliverability is yours You pick a sending provider and set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC; Mailchimp manages sender reputation for you.
- Plainer editor Mailchimp's drag-and-drop editor and template gallery are more polished than most alternatives.
- Store syncs Product and purchase syncs for abandoned-cart emails take extra work or are missing.
- Thinner reports Click maps, industry benchmarks and audience insights are thinner in most self-hosted tools.
